Trainees

UC-LEND offers graduate training at three levels. The following section provides information about the requirements and expectations of UC-LEND trainees at the various training levels.

Long Term
Long-term trainees complete a minimum of 300 training hours during the academic year consisting of: coursework, a weekly seminar series, and clinical work. All long-term trainees attend the weekly UC-LEND seminar series, which is held from 8am-noon on Fridays during the academic year. Details are listed in the table below.  Long-term trainees must complete an application and undergo a selection process for admission to the UC-LEND training program.

***Although the training program consists of these courses, accumulation of training hours is flexible for fellows.  Consultation and advising by LEND faculty is required in order to tailor curriculum to best fit the needs and availability of medical fellows.  Please contact Angela Reyes ([email protected]), UC-LEND program coordinator for more information.

 

If selected, long-term trainees receive a training stipend. Long-term trainees will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the academic year. Long-term training positions are currently open to UCR graduate students in Education, UCLA graduate students in Psychology, Public Health, or Social Work, and UCLA post-doctoral fellows in Pediatric Neurology. Medium and Short Term
Medium-term trainees complete 40-299 training hours, while short-term trainees complete fewer than 40 training hours. Medium- and short-term trainees typically attend UC-LEND training events, including but not limited to: public seminars and workshops. Training events which are open to the public are generally announced on our website, through social media, and via our mailing list.

No application is required to participate as a medium- or short-term UC-LEND trainee, but interested individuals should register as a medium- or short-term trainee and be sure to sign in and out of UC-LEND training events so that there will be an accurate log of training hours completed. No stipends are provided for medium- or short-term trainees. Medium- and short-term trainees will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the academic year detailing the exact number of training hours completed. Certificates of completion will not be provided to individuals who did not previously register as a medium- or short-term UC-LEND trainee; the accumulated number of training hours completed will be calculated from the date of the registration as a medium- or short-term trainee.
